Sister Maureen Walters Scrubs Run
Story
I have once again entered the St Vincent's Scrubs Run and Walk which is being held on Sunday 2nd March. Despite the picturesque venue, the 5 km walk is no "walk in the park" due to the undulating nature of Yarra Boulevard and it is certainly a challenge for me. Last year's event was a wonderful experience and was only hampered by the unseasonal hot weather. It was a joy to share the day with Sister Maryanne Confoy rsc as we supported each other along the journey.
The 2014 St vincent's Scrubs Run is endeavouring to raise $400,000 to allow the Neurosciences and Neurosurgery departments to purchase specialised nerve monitoring equipment allow them to conduct delicate spinal surgery, particularly for patient with scoliosis. The equipment will reduce the risk of damaging nerve fibres which could lead to loss of mobility of other functions.
I hope that you can assist in some small way to allow the hospital to purchase this much needed equipment. Thank you.
Activity
St Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) Ltd
Community support and generosity have been central to the story of St Vincent’s since our beginnings as a small cottage hospital in 1890s Fitzroy. Back then, we relied entirely on charitable donations to survive and thrive. Over 100 years later, we take our place as Victoria’s leading teaching hospital, with over 7,000 staff providing the best possible medical, surgical, emergency, mental health, palliative and aged care services to patients from backgrounds of all kinds.
In the last year alone, the St Vincent’s team have performed Australia’s first hand transplant, developed the world’s first warning device for epileptic seizures and opened an amazing new state-of-the-art Cancer Centre. For these reasons and many more, we are recognised locally and internationally for excellence in health care, research and innovation.
All this would not be possible without the continuing tradition of amazing community giving and support. We receive 70 per cent of our funding from government and bridge the gap in large part thanks to the generosity of our donors. With your help, we have the means to secure the best medical staff, technology and facilities for all our patients. Many thanks for your support!
