Patricia's Scrubs Run Fundraising Page
Story
On Sunday 2nd March, I will be walking 5 km in the St Vincent’s Hospital Scrubs “Fun” run to raise money for much needed equipment for the Hospital's Neurosciences and Neurosurgery departments. With 79.2% of Australians suffering from lower back pain at some time in their life the demand for surgical intervention is growing rapidly but the risks remain high. St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne is in need of specialised equipment which will allow our neurosurgery team to perform delicate spinal operations on patients who suffer from chronic back pain, particularly those affected by scoliosis.
The equipment costs $400,000.00 and it will reduce the risk of patients losing some level of mobility or other function. Every dollar raised through this event goes directly toward the purchase of the new equipment. Any donation is greatly appreciated so please show your support of this great hospital.
Many thanks, Tricia.
Activity
St Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) Ltd
Community support and generosity have been central to the story of St Vincent’s since our beginnings as a small cottage hospital in 1890s Fitzroy. Back then, we relied entirely on charitable donations to survive and thrive. Over 100 years later, we take our place as Victoria’s leading teaching hospital, with over 7,000 staff providing the best possible medical, surgical, emergency, mental health, palliative and aged care services to patients from backgrounds of all kinds.
In the last year alone, the St Vincent’s team have performed Australia’s first hand transplant, developed the world’s first warning device for epileptic seizures and opened an amazing new state-of-the-art Cancer Centre. For these reasons and many more, we are recognised locally and internationally for excellence in health care, research and innovation.
All this would not be possible without the continuing tradition of amazing community giving and support. We receive 70 per cent of our funding from government and bridge the gap in large part thanks to the generosity of our donors. With your help, we have the means to secure the best medical staff, technology and facilities for all our patients. Many thanks for your support!
